I am the Diva Challenge- nature

I'm not sure what to say. I can't offer imaginative things in my tangles, I can't think outside the box, but I can give you color. That is all I have in this flat, one dimension without depth I draw in. I cannot shade, twist or bend to make tangles amazing and my own. I've been needing to say this out loud and if I rid myself of it perhaps I'll be more productive. Just needed to put it down on 'paper'. Tired of it dogging me.

  1. If I look at some of our fellow tanglers Zentangles, I also feel like you - cannot think outside of the box - so you are not alone. But I really like your tile and it is not really one dimensional.

  2. Please do not beat yourself up about it. I think that the best thing about Zentangle is allowing yourself to go with the flow and let the tangles happen. Just experiment without expectation and enjoy what you do. The results are always surprising

  3. Love your tile. With your different use of pens and colors that's what made it dimensional for me. I know you will shed some of the I can't create outside a box demons as you grow as an artist. Keep creating you'll be surprised when you look back how your art has progressed.

  4. Sarah, being "creative" is NOT part of the Zentangle world. Zentangle is for soothing the mind without having to think about creativity. That being said, there are many of us who actually enjoy stress and so we have to push our tangles around. So, actually you are doing it "right" and I am doing it "wrong'. Please just enjoy doing tangles just the way you want. Your tile is lovely!

  6. Sarah, you have a wonderful colourful style all of your own and I would recognise many of your tiles even if they were not on your blog. If things can be seen in tiles it is often in the eye of the beholder, and not in the eye of the artist. That is true of all types of art. I mentioned this in a recent post on my blog, I think it is just in people's nature to try and see things even in abstract, non representational drawing.

  7. Sarah, I like this dark green and the composition of your tile!

  8. But you DO make them your own. Be happy with your version of this art form and embrace it. You don't have to do what some other people do, just do it your way the best you can. Anyway, I like it, so there!

  9. You DO have your very own style! It's your art and I hope you can enjoy the creative process you're going through each time. You should...! :-)

  10. I totally agree with the things said above. It's about the process, about relaxing. The name is ZENtangle, isn't it? I like your tile and hope you can see the beauty in your work.

  13. You did great on the Muchin tile. The wavy lines work really well, and I never thought to do Munchin that way.
Perhaps work more in colours, since that's what makes you happy. You'll get through this creative block. I believe in you.

  16. We admire what you do as much as you admire what others do. The world needs more color!

  17. I, too, am always critical on my work. I am not experienced in art, so my zentangles take me quite a lot of time and I am probably more interested in beautiful results than I "should" be in pure zentangle thinking. Therefore I find my zentangles often looking so planned and pedantic. Yours however often have something wild about them that I really like. Also this week with all the colors and the wild organic growth of the plants. I like it, it is really powerful!

  18. I think your tiles are lovely. Your colors are sophisticated and very interesting. As for shading, many great and famous artists will tell you it's overrated! Zentangle is not supposed to be realistic drawing. Your work has a kind of passion that comes through loud and clear. Thank you for sharing it with us!

  19. I was thinking how perfectly you captured Autumn in these tiles. The colors, and the little details everywhere. Truly like a blustery fall day. Good work.

  20. I love what you did with this tile! Don't beat yourself up. You are making them your own and that is the point. Let it go and enjoy what you do!

  21. I love both tiles. Your use of color always impresses me. (I shy away from it and often feel like I don't understand it.) Both tiles have a strong sense of movement. We are all different in how we see and interpret life. Imagine how boring it would be if we all looked the same! That, to me, is the beauty of Zentangle, when you see the mosaic of everyone's work side by side. I'm glad you're in there with the rest of us!
